Different culture influences how native and non-native students compose rhetorical writing. Kaplan (1966), for example, states language and writing are cultural phenomena; different cultures have different rhetorical tendencies. Contrastive rhetoric gives directions for teachers and students about preferred patterns of writing, and to overcome the differences through effective strategies. Thesis statement is really concerned in the process of essay writing. Thesis statement is a complete sentence that indicates the writer’s opinion and also states the specific topic in any paragraph. A good thesis statement should be specific and clearly, not too general or vague. A thesis statement is defined as a clear statement about a limited point (Guth, 1970). Commonly, most of students write a thesis statement at the beginning and at the end introductory. Liu (2007) states that the placement of thesis statement has been typically categorized into two types, deductive and inductive, putting the thesis statement at the beginning or at the end. Another opinion comes from Karen Gorsik (1996) and Oshima (1999). They state that a thesis statement usually appears at the beginning of paper. It can be the first sentence or the last sentence of the introductory paragraph. |
