Abstract
ABSTRACT
Monitoring and evaluation the growth and development of students' education level are very important and fundamental. Personality is considered as a factor that plays role in determining the success of a study. However personality tests are still rarely used in the selection of new undergraduate students and researches about the relation between personality and the success of learning are still limited. This research’s aim is to see the relation between the pre clinic FKUAJ academic year 2007/2008 students' personality aspects using MMPI-2 Advanced Plus and Grade Point Average (GPA). This research is a descriptive analytical cross sectional study with 154 students of pre clinic FKUAJ academic year 2007/2008 as respondents. Each respondent are asked to fill the MMPI-2 Advanced Plus test, the researchers collect the GPA data until second semester. Data, that has been collected, will be tested with chi square test using SPSS 15. The result of chi square test showed that there are 5 scales of MMPI affect GPA achievement (? <0.05). The scales are the MfW scale, Pa scale, Sc scale, Ma scale, and Ho scale, where the Odd Ratio (OR) of MfW scale is 11.4; the OR of Pa scale is 2.625; the OR of Sc scale is 3.149; the OR of Ma scale is 3.678; and the OR of Ho scale is 3.115. These mean that if there is an increase on these scales, the respondents will have a tendency a low GPA achievement related to OR value of each scale. With this relation, the MMPI test is expected to be a primary consideration in predict and anticipate the level of growth and development of the pre-clinic FKUAJ students’ education as well as considerations in the selection of new undergraduate students and in determining the criteria for education evaluation. In addition, the MMPI test is also expected to detect the possibility of severe psychopathology on students as soon as possible so that an early intervention can be provided. This research is also expected to become a basic research for further researches.
