Prevalence of Tuberculosis (TB) in the world is very high, especially in developing
countries, included Indonesia. TB is a chronic infection disease caused by
Mycobacterium tuberculosis and can cause various hematologic aberrations, one of
them was anaemia. Anaemia was defined as a decrease of haemoglobin
concentration below the normal value in accordance with gender and age. Anaemia
chronic diseases usually occurred after the patient has the disease for 1 - 2 months.
The anaemia was generally not progressive or stable, whereas degree of anaemia in a
patient depends on the severity and length of suffering from disease. Design of the
research used descriptive cross - sectional study and consecutive sampling method by
observing laboratory results and blood smears from 30 TB inpatient. The research
shows that 83.3% of TB patients suffered from anaemia. The blood smears of the 30
TB patients displayed that the variations description of erythrocytes shape showed
3.3% were poikilocytosis and the variations description of erythrocytes size showed
26.7% were anisocytosis. While description of erythrocytes from the blood smears
showed 90% were normocytic and the remaining 10% were microcytic.
