Isi artikelThe purpose of this commentary is to provide an account of STS expertise in a different courtroom setting than that experienced by Simon Cole, and draw lessons from both experiences. I have been called on multiple times to serve as an expert witness in litigation between high tech companies on matters related to the transfer of technological know-how, and also on the ethical obligation of employees and companies to protect intellectual property during such transfer. Here I combined expertise from three areas: STS, cognitive science, and engineering ethics. Any or all of these sources of expertise could be contested in the court, as could my own qualifications.
