Isi artikel
All knowledge is bound to possess a global scope and as a consequence encyclopaedias are still required. Only through encyclopaedias can we eventually constitute a global research community. However, as globalization intensifies, the crisis of the legitimacy of global knowledge is looming larger. In the context of contemporary globalism we must reconceive knowledge through the problematic of encounter, negotiation and dialogue. In this way, ‘inter-subjectivity’ becomes an ontological concept and the Chinese ideal of a world of ‘harmony-in-difference’ becomes more apposite. By revealing that knowledge harbours its own counter-knowledge, the New Encyclopaedia Project upholds a new and important concept of globalization.
