Isi artikelIn 1992, Richard Wilkinson published his analysis of a peculiar fact; countries with greater levels of income inequality had poorer life expectancies (Wilkinson, 1992). As Wagstaff and van Doorslaer (2000) would later point out, this finding is completely unremarkable, given the non-linear relationship between income and health outcomes. Yet Wilkinson, while recognizing the possibility that his observation betokened nothing novel, chose to brave Occam's razor, emphasizing the more intricate possibility that income inequality itself causes poor health.
