Isi artikel
Austronesian languages belong to the agglutinative type of languages. This means that the languages depend very much on bound morphemes or affixes as part of their formation. Besides affixes, such languages seem to use simulfixes as part of the morphological processes. Simulfixation always involves nasalization of the first phoneme of the root (Asmah Haji Omar 1983:65). From the data, we can see that simulfixation or nasalization brings about active verbs. This process does not only occurs in Malay but also in most of the languages which belong to the Austronesian stock. This paper attempts to look into this process and also the occurance of nasal either as a simulfix or part of bound morphemes which focusses on the Malaysian Austronesian languages, especially the Malay.
