Isi artikelABSTRACT The effects of the classroom assessment environment on achievement in mathematics and science were investigated in this study. Data were obtained from the Longitudinal Study of American Youth, a national probability sample of public school students in 1987-1991, in two cohorts (Grades 7-10 and Grades 10-12+). Beyond the expected background effects of gender, socioeconomic status, and reading ability on achievement, homework effects were found for mathematics achievement; homework and assessment format effects were found for science achievement for both cohorts. Results were interpreted according to classroom assessment environment theory.
