Recent research on professional and academic social work sadly reminds us that despite our profession’s ideals of social justice, women still lag behind men in our field in salary and in career advancement. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is embarking on a major state-level and national initiative aimed at reinvestment in social work (Stoesen, 2006, 2007). At this crucial time, we should also rededicate ourselves to addressing the gender-equity problems that continue to plague us.
