Isi artikelThis article aims at explaining the fortune of Islamism. Several scholars contend that Islamism has failed in spite of the statements of several other scholars to the contrary. They argue that no Islamist group has taken over a government of a country, except in Iran, Sudan, and Afghanistan. But in Iran and Sudan, the Islamists have failed to run their respective country according to Islamist ideology. In Afghanistan, they could only hold their power for a short time. Some Islamist groups had resorted to violence and terrorism in their bid to take over a state but it was all to no avail. The only way left for them to achieve their objectives is to participate in the democratic system. And to this system they turn to and, surprisingly, they thrive. But this resulted in the metamorphosis in their ideologies, approaches, and practices to fit the new system they adopt. Because of these changes, several scholars refer to this type of Islamism as post-Islamism.
