For every production field, the selection of facility layout will surely determine the effectiveness of production system. This implicates in the quantity and quality of the product being produced, delivery time, and reduction in production cost. Consumers behavior at present time shows a dynamic changes in demand and the variety of product that resulting in a growing needs for new products, which means there will be a new variation of flow material in one factory as well, in order to keep pace with the changes. Thus, we can find many improvement and modification of types of layout, one of them is a layout known as modular layout. Modular layout is a development in two types of traditional layout, that are cellular and functional layout. Modular layout is a layout that consist of modules that connected by material network, where material flow sequences are given as priority in the process. In the designing process, all of the material flow in the factory will be analyzed using distance/similarity between each flow calculation with merger coefficient and levenshtein distance method, which is will be used as a basis of operations grouping. The analysis shows its found that the final layout forms a different pattern from the initial one, which gives a reduction in material flow distances inside the production field quite significantly, a 45,43% reduction in flow distances compared to the initial layout. |
