Abstract
Technological advancement has increased the usage of air conditioning; while it has been known also that machines that use principle of thermodynamics require high amount of energy. On the other hand, energy has been increasingly important and valuable these days. Thus, there is a need to use them efficiently. Bearing this in mind, the main purpose of this thesis is to observe and analyze implemented methods in steam compression cycle. This system includes several components that intertwined with each other, such as evaporator, compressor, condenser and expansion valve. The writer suggests addition of a component which boosts exchange of heat in the system (heat exchanger). On top of that, the writer also suggests substitution from synthetic refrigerant (R-22) to hydrocarbon refrigerant (MC-22). This test used “one shell pass & two tube pass” type heat exchanger using cold stream in the tube and hot stream in the shell. Test results show reduced electricity consumption and improved refrigeration effect. Further test results processing also shows an improvement in result coefficient. Analysis on the above result shows that there is reduced compressor work rate compared to the absorbed heat from the evaporator which made such result improvement. Reduced compressor’s work rate also caused by a decrease in used refrigerant’s ?.
