Isi artikel
Hurricane Georges and Hurricane Mitch have had the most widespread effect and impact of any hurricane this century. Hurricane Georges directly affected 189,453 families in Puerto Rico, St. Croix, St. Thomas, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Estimates of the costs far exceed those for Andrew and Fran. At the time of this writing, Hurricane Mitch has had an even more devastating effect on Central America, especially Honduras and Nicaragua. Focus of this paper will be on Puerto Rico and the Mental Health function of the Red Cross in response to Hurricane Georges. It is a brief anecdotal discussion of activities encountered during a 25 day period in the Western Region of Puerto Rico.
