Isi artikelIn June 2005, Kimberly Price was shot to death by her estranged husband as she was walking into her workplace, a local beauty salon. He had been waiting for her to come to work that morning, and her friends and coworkers indicated that she had been afraid of him because of his violent tendencies and his anger over the impending divorce (Hart, 2005). This story is not unusual for domestic violence victims. Often women who experience partner violence talk about how it affects them while at work. Not only can it directly affect them, for example through direct harassment of her or her coworkers, but also the stress from the violence can affect their concentration and performance (Swanberg & Logan, 2005). For many years it is almost as if we have compartmentalized partner violence as a crime that occurs only in private. And, although it is true that much of the violence among intimates does occur at home in private, sometimes it overflows into the public arena, and specifically at the workplace.
