Isi artikel
Egyptians believed that sperm was produced in the thoracic spine, a conviction apparently based upon their understanding of the anatomy of the bull. Egyptian texts show the close relationship felt to exist between the backbone and life, including one's ability to survive after death. The spine is shown to playa major role in after-life revivification, as reflected both in the texts and the iconography. Ankh is identified as a thoracic vertebra of an ungulate, which explains both its shape and its meaning.
