Isi artikel
A recent discovery is that a high proportion of traditional Maori waiata song texts contain just eight vowels to each half-line of the text, counting short vowels as one and long vowels as two. The present paper examines a sample of 15 "rule of eight" waiata and sets out to determine whether the regularities of the metrical text are parallelled in the music.
