In the Jesuit Relations of 1634, Pere Paul Le Jeune included a ten-page chapter on the language of the Montagnais Indians. This is one of the earliest accounts of this Algonquian language. In this article, I present a list of fifty different forms that occur in the chapter with Proto-Algonquian etymologies, comparison with modern Montagnais, and some philological comment.
