The diachronic encoding sequence of color terms helps elucidate synchronic cognitive situations. This paper investigates Sudanese skin color terms as presented by Ahmed el Tinay. Synchronic and diachronic developmental schemes explain the un- expected use of blue/green terms in the system. The key is the historical origin of blue/green in the dark end of an ancient macro-black/red/macro-white system.
