Isi artikelFor eight hours on the first day of each month from age 2;0 to 3;0, incidents of B's laughter were noted, and five videotapes were made to obtain a permanent record of typical behavior. B was observed to tell jokes in a formal joke style and to make a pun, which other researchers have not believed possible in such a young child. Models for B's productive humor are identified in B's social interaction, both verbal and non-verbal, and its function for her is described. Further naturalistic studies of child humor are indicated, in particular, of the role of siblings in the development of humor.
