The migration of working-age adults from rural areas of China has altered traditional patterns of intergenerational support among elderly persons who remain in the rural areas. This study examines how intergenerational support has influenced the changes in cognitive functioning of therural elderly in that country. Data derived from a 3-wave longitudinal survey from 2001 to 2006 of 997 parents aged 60 and older living in rural areas of Anhui Province are used in the study.
