Isi artikelThe importance of using evidence-based knowledge to improve policies, practices, and outcomes in the child welfare system is the theme for the articles of this special issue of Research on Social Work Practice (RSWP). The idea for this issue emerged from an interested group of researchers who came together at the first meeting of the ChildWelfare Research Interest (CWRI) Group at the 8th Annual meeting of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR), January 2003 in Washington, D.C. The SSWR conference and Child Welfare Research Interest Group attracts a large group of individuals from around the United States, and it did not go unnoticed by these researchers that at this particular annual conference, a substantial number of quality child welfare–focused research papers and symposia formed part of the annual SSWR program. Strong interest was expressed from the CWRI Group in finding ways to inform a larger community of practitioners to think about incorporating evidence into everyday child welfare practice.
