Isi artikelIn this paper, a new frequency domain fault isolation method for linear time-invariant systems is proposed. A fault is assumed to be manifested in a change of one of the system parameters, which in turn causes a change in the frequency response. Based on this changed frequency response, a fault detection is first made, followed by fault isolation which attempts to determine what fault has occurred or which parameter in the transfer function model has changed. The proposed method defines an observation vector which captures the changes in the frequency response after a fault has occured. By constructing observation variables from at least two partitions of the frequency response, it is possible to isolate the fault. A certain fault condition is concluded when the observation vector differs significantly (statistically) from some known trajectory of the unfaulted system. Throughout the fault isolation phase, only the frequency response of the system is estimated and no attempt is made to estimate the system parameters. Hence, it differs from fault isolation methods which compares estimated parameter values against some set thresholds.
