This paper proposes design of digital fuzzy logic controller (FLC) using very-high-speed-integrated-circuit hardware description language (VHDL) and its implementation on complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs) chip. This FLC is suitable to control application that needs real-time processing. The digital FLCs, which have two-input one-output architecture with nine and twenty-five rules, are proposed for design examples. It uses Takagi-Sugeno zero-order inference method. This FLC is off-line reconfigurable in term of its membership function forms, fuzzy implication rules and its consequence values by changing the register contents through the change of their generic VHDL code and structure connectivity. The FLC is also suitable to be dedicated to some engineering problems by setting up its reconfigurable terms to suite certain application. For synchronizing signal flows of the FLC component, this FLC chip is controlled by six-clocking series with 100 ns period of the global clock. Input-output execution time is about 550 ns, make this circuit suitable for real-time control applications.
