For 40 years, our profession has emphasized empirically based practice, the promotion of clinicianscientists, development of infrastructure for agency based research, and more recently evidence-based practice. However, research productivity on intervention research to date comes up perilously short (Fraser, 2004). The needs of underserved and diverse populations remain poorly addressed, as does the development of cultural relevance. Absent increased knowledge development about effective practice, the profession is in jeopardy
