Elevated esterase activity is one of the mechanisms of resistance to organophosphate insecticides in mosquitoes. Such psychological resistance can be detected by a microplate assay method. Culex quinquefaciatus Say is one of the domestic mosquitoes of medical importance showing risk of exposure to organophosphate insecticides applied indoor either as thermal fog or ultra low volume (ULV) since the last two decades in urban areas in Indonesia including Yogyakarta.
