In this paper the model-process mismatch, represented by structured perturbations, with a GPC controller will be considered. Under this consideration it will be shown that the closed loop characteristic equation is a polytope of polynomials. Using this result the influence of the prefilter polynomial T on the robustness will be analysed. The main conclusion is that the recommendation generally admitted in the literature for choosing the value of T, in order to improve robustness, does not always work adequately because, sometimes, it can lead to smaller stability regions or, being the stability region bigger, the stability hypersphere is actually smaller.
