Isi artikelWilliam Spencer Vickrey, Professor Emeritus of Economics, Columbia University in New York City, received the Nobel Prize in Economic Science, shared with Professor James A. Mirrlees of the University of Cambridge, in October 1996. He died of cardiac arrest three days later. He had recently (1992 to 1993) served as President of the American Economic Association, which had designated him as a Distinguished Fellow in 1978. Professor Vickrey had received other evidences of recognition of outstanding achievement, including an honorary doctorate from the University of Chicago and presidency of the Atlantic Economic Association. He was a Fellow of the Econometric Society and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
