Data from the National Family Health Survey, 1998-1999, India are used to examine the association between domestic violence and the risk of infant and child mortality in India. The study explores teh association of physical violence against the nutritional status of women and children, the reporting of pregnancy intendedness and the ulitilization of maternal and child health servces. A significant association is found between physical violence against mothers and the risk of death of their children during infancy and childhood.
