Isi artikelThis paper is to study the conversion of methane to liquid fuels using metal loaded ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst. Metal loaded ZSM-5 zeolite is prepared by acidic ion exchange method. Cr, Cu and Ga are chosen based on their role as the metal-oxide catalyst in reforming and dehydrogenation processes. Loading the ZSM-5 zeolite with transition metals produce catalyst with dual functions – acidic and oxidative. These two functions need to be balanced to promote certain reactions such as dehydrogenation and oligomerization and suppress the combustion reaction. The oxidation of methane was carried out in a micro-packed bed reactor at atmospheric pressure, temperature 800oC, F/W = 10440 ml/g.hr and CH4/O2 ratio 10:1. The experimental results indicated that methane oxidation over the metal loaded ZSM-5 produced gasoline with encouraging RON. The conversion of methane and the selectivity of gasoline obtained demonstrate that these catalysts have the potential to convert natural gas to C5 + liquid hydrocarbons.
