Isi artikelIn this paper, we have proposed a method to predict the dynamic stability of the human walking that can be used to predict the risk of fall in the elderly persons. In the daily life, human beings walk in various changing environment very successfully despite of the fact that a human body is a highly nonlinear dynamic stochastic system. During the walking, instability occurs between the steps when we shift our weight from one leg to other. Center of gravity (COG) of a walking person plays an important role in maintaining the dynamic stability during walking. The variability of COG in analyzed using approximate entropy technique that is an excellent method of predicting the complexity or variability of deterministic as well as stochastic signals. It is observed from the experimental results that we can very clearly classify the walking gait patterns of young and elderly subjects using approximate entropy of the COG as an index in the lateral direction. This result suggests that the variability of COG is more in the elderly people making them on a greater risk of fall laterally.
