Modern control technology employs process models, which are too complicated in RD for control system design. Alleviating conventional process models, this paper develops a pattern-based predictive control (PPC) scheme for ETBE purity in RD. The scheme incorporates pattern-based process prediction with conventional linear control. The system design is illustrated with case studies.
