Isi artikel
Noun incorporation in Yucatec Maya is a syntactic process commonly employed in ordinary, conversational-style speech. A semantic description of noun incorporation is offered which would account for patterned and idiosyncratic differences in the interpretation of expressions with incorporated body- part, as opposed to non-body-part nouns. Noun incorporation intends a "usual situation" obtain between agents, actions, objects, and instruments; on that basis native speaker/listeners interpret incorporating expressions by drawing upon their extralinguistic knowledge of real-world potentialities and probabilities.
