The gender system of Oneida has two genders that include reference to females. These two genders can be distinguished on the basis of six semantic components. These six components are identified and their interactions reveal that they can be ranked in importance. Oneida's complex pronominal system has undergone several reanalyses and the current complexity in the feminine genders offers a rich potential for further reanalysis.
