Isi artikel
Nooksack of northwest Washington has been under linguistic pressure for years from its neighbors, especially Upriver Halkomelem. This paper uses fresh transcriptions and the surviving tapes and field notes of four linguists to sort out the phonemic rules for each of the last speakers and partial speakers of Nooksack. These rules are compared and contrasted with those of Upriver Halkomelem, Lushootseed, and Central Coast Salish to discover the phonological diffusion and borrowing in Nooksack.
