The constrained operating circumstances of academic libraries in recent years have produced significant modifications of practice. The latter, in turn, have resulted in both explanations and justifications of events. A new professional philosophy is growing out of this debate. This review examines certain aspects of the new model librarianship as these are presented in recent publications.
