This study examines the impact of training on the information technology used in public libraries in England and Canada. Semi structured interviews were held with staff at different levels in the selected libraries during late 1990 and early 1991 and the data reveals the route of automation taken in Canada and England and the IT (information technology) applications in use. Further applications these sample libraries plan or want to have in the future are also discussed. From the information gathered, the training implications are charted, assessed and discussed.
