Isi artikelThe act of violence has the potential to occur in dating relationship. One of the most common acts of violence is emotional abuse. Emotional abuse consists of behaviours and attitude which indirectly intimidating, manipulating, and rejecting attention from one’s dating partner (Engel, 2002). This study aims to obtain general description of emotional abuse in young adults with dating partners in Jakarta. Qualitative approach with in-depth focused interview were used to acquire data from four subjects. The results demonstrated that dating relationships with emotional abuse usually formed very rapidly. The main source of emotional abuse is excessive jealously. Subjects reported feeling shock and confusion when emotional abuse occurred and they struggled to accept the abuse. The most common reaction from dating partner when facing the possibility of losing their partner is crying. When leaving from abusive relationship is finally decided, the main reason is usually because of psychological fatique. For those who chose to remain with their dating partner, they used love and confidence that their partners can change.
