Isi artikel
For some years now in ELT circles the terms ESL/EFL have been used as generally acceptable descriptions of the role and status of English within particular areas outside the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand. It might seem strange, on reflection, how the terms, between them, could have accounted for the wide spectrum of intra-national roles of English the world over, a spectrum which certainly admits of more shades than merely white and black. Their currency, to date, would suggest that they were accepted and used as useful (up to a point), broad characterizations, not necessarily wholly accurate, for grey, fuzzy, borderline areas.
