Isi artikel
The history of cathedral libraries shows that each is unique, an integral part of the cathedral and of great importance to the ecclesiastical historian, liturgiologist, musicologist, student of the humanities, rare book librarian and bibliographer. Their function, the varied contents and the different aspects of cathedral librarianship are considered. A future for cathedral libraries as diocesan centres offering specialist collections of modern books in addition to the older volumes is envisaged, thus maintaining the old tradition of the cathedral being a centre of learning.
