Abstract
Development of Tanzania as a country depends on the development of agriculture. Recent health efforts have focussed on improving the health of rural populations, upon which agricultural progress depends. Despite governmental policy (supportive of village development and progress), it is clear that the farther one gets from urban areas the worse the living conditions become. Lack of medical facilities, not dire poverty, is the problem. Nearly 50 of children die before reaching age five. Mobile health teams recently were made part of rural health care delivery. Work of the Masasi Diocese Mission Hospital is described. It relates its planning to health plans made on the national level for the rural population.
