This article contains a summary of the findings of a market survey of British National Bibliography and BLAISE-LINE users carried out by Industrial Market Research Ltd for the British Library Bibliographic Services Division as part of a development project to determine the future pattern of national bibliographic services. Telephone and personal interviews with a sample from the UK user communities revealed an overall satisfaction with BNB, while the perceived lack of currency confirmed the necessity for the Division’s new approach to record creation to be implemented in 1985. A widespread lack of awareness of the potential of BLAISE-LINE was identified, suggesting the need for a large and sustained educational effort in the library community, in order to realize the opportunities for better services offered by current technology.
