There are 162 public health centres that provide rural health care and function in the control of communicable disease. Midwives register expectant mothers, and professional care is provided for problem pregnancies. Prenatal and child care clinics are conducted weekly at health centres and subcentres. Family planning programmes have expanded since the establishment of 70 family planning clinics and 35 sterilization institutions in 1959. Other aspects covered in the article include the following: methods of gathering vital statistics, school health services, health training schemes, public health and government analysts' laboratories, and a programme of applied nutrition.
