| Turkey and Iran differ substantially in their family planning programmes. Iran has a highly visible programme supported by a resourceful organization, whereas the programme in Turkey maintains a low profile and its organizational structure is less flexible. Neither programme has had an appreciable impact on the birth rate, and abortion is prevalent in both countries. Educational programmes on all levels have developed faster in Iran than in Turkey. The Iranian programme is integrated with maternal and child health care. Twenty-seven references are listed. |
