Abstract
Positive measures to meet health needs, which can be taken within the limited resources of a developing country, are in the areas of: (I)training; (2)administration and communication; (3)public health; (4)curative medicine; and (5) family planning. It was recommended that at the village level in southern Sudan the Village Midwife, Village Health Auxiliary I (preventive emphasis), and Village Medical Auxiliary II (curative emphasis)be trained to provide easily accessible health care for the rural population. Training in rural settings is planned for Nairobi health professionals, since training in hospital settings leaves many trainees at a loss when confronted by actual situations in the bush. Experience at Gondar, Ethiopia, proves that rural service workers must have supportive supervision to ensure flow of drugs, pay, equipment, etc., and to keep auxiliary worker morale high. Communication in East African rural areas is facilitated by radio contact between hospitals and mobile Units. Transportation of the very ill and treatment for remote groups is made possible by air transport. In countries where over 5; inadequate numbers of consul ants and teachers to train the teachers; and lack of funds. Paper three#
