1.1 The data used in this paper were collected in Penang, Malaysia from 8 March 1976 to 21 September 1976. The child recorded, called here Aini, was 21 months old when this series of recordings began. She was 27 months old when the segment of data represented here ended. The complete data on Aini is one year in duration’and extends until 23 March 1977, when she was 33 months old. The first six months of the recorded data were selected as representative of the self-drilling phenomenon described.
