Isi artikel
Error analysis is perhaps one of the few applications of linguistics to language education which can be conducted with some success regardless of the particular theoretical persuasion of the analyst. The very fact that the evidence for errors exists only in surface forms produced by subjects forces every analyst more or less into the position of the structuralist or the taxonomist. The fact that the explanation of the probable sources of errors can be found only by looking beneath the surface at some kind of speaker/writer intent forces every analyst more or less into the position of the generative grammarian, the speech-act theorist, or the advocate of the primacy of comunicative competence .
