Abstract
The aim of this research is basically to able to present deeper insight regarding the industry of heavy equipment’s spare parts and the current market competition. PT United Tractors (UT) as one of the major player on Indonesia’s heavy equipment industry is also known as the distributor of Komatsu. Komatsu itself has almost dominated 50% of heavy equipment market share in Indonesia. The economic crisis in 1998 has given a great impact in this industry. The most concerned effect is the way it encouraged a new shape of market whereareas has given an opportunity for the growth of small to medioum-sized company (contractor) which provides a multitasking and wide range of solutions in heavy equipment work, particularly as an outsourcing company, with special core is handling projects for mine and construction big companies. The function of spare parts becomes a capital-goods, indeed. One of the most recognized and important spare-parts is called Hydraulic Hose which must be refurbished regularly since it function is very essential. This small contractors more concern about the price of heavy equipment spare parts and service they can get from the spare parts suppliers. As they might expect a good performance of the heavy equipments, therefore a good quality of its spare parts is inevitably in supporting its performance. Since the role of Hose is very essential, it has been creating a high demands in the industry of heavy equioment, particularly in local market. Sort of issues regarding the product itself, price, knowledge and not to forget the supply ios highly considered. Normally, it would create a greater opportunity for the market players. No wonder more and more players like to “taste the pie” and they directly become the competitors of PT United Tractors, Tbk. Writer has observed of this competitive market from local shops and threats of UT’s competitors in heavy equipment’s spare parts battle field. This research is equipped with descriptive design methodology. The research also tries to give deciption and identify the growth of the market of heavy equipment’s spare parts, the response of the customers of Komatsu, and the strengths as well weakness of UT to provide next strategy in overcoming threats from local sops. Result & Suggest from writerbare focusing in selling hose which is giving greater contribution than other spare parts, setting up new strategy such as making ”dealership programme” which is UT giving a special price to achieving sales volume. At the end, hopefully, the result could give great contribution for the management to take some initial steps in overcoming the market threats and finally increasing the company’s profit. By this study, writer tries to examine the condition and hopefully be able to provide valuable information and consideration for the management of UT in handling the problems and making critical decisions
