This article outlines the current unusual pattern of library services in Guernsey provided by a variety of organizations—ranging from voluntary and state—funded groups to the endowed Priaulx and Guille-Allès Libraries. This gives context to a description of the early stages of development of the free public library service based on the Guille-Allès, which is planned for 1981. The exciting possibilities for future expansion of this service and the problems facing the library planners are also considered.
