Isi artikelThis article summarizes and expands on some of the results published in the report "Cataloguing costs in the U.K.: an analysis of the market for automated cataloguing services" by C. Mary Overton and Alan Seal. A questionnaire survey of 845 UK libraries was carried out to establish the size and distribution of the market for automated cataloguing services. The response rate from university, polytechnic and public libraries was 82 per cent. Most of the questions related to the cost of cataloguing (such as staff effort and computer charges) and the size of cataloguing intake. Other questions dealt with the size of library, type of catalogue entry used, form of output and subject processing matters. Results include graphs which show how many titles are catalogued at what cost and the potential income to a supplier of a UK cataloguing service at any particular price he might charge.
