This paper is concerned with methods of assessment and evaluation applicable to education for librarianship in the United Kingdom. The perceived advantages and disadvantages of the various assessment methods are discussed. Suggestions for improving the process of assessment are quoted. The overall importance of objectives, representing the basic organizing principle, is stressed as being fundamental to any discussion of assessment.
